Swinging 3D architecture in CoBouw

For the CoBouw article on the 3D metamorphosis of Hendrik Baskeweg, Ron van Leeuwen went to take a look at one of the transformed balconies. Meanwhile, the upgrade of the second flat has also started.

On the balcony, Van Leeuwen shows what kind of technical puzzle had to be solved. To make everything fit together without abrupt transitions, the key point turned out to be to neatly line up the centres of all those circles. "Once we solved that geometric puzzle, everything suddenly fell into place. It turned out to be the key to almost all subsequent design questions."

The mathematical puzzle Van Leeuwen had to solve for the project in Den Helder was still not enough for him. In the evening he also composed a piece of music about it in which similar shifts take place in rhythm and chords. He did the same for 12 other iconic buildings that have inspired him throughout his career, which can be heard on his album Architones.
