Van Tijen wrote this quotation in a letter to his colleague Dick Apon, who had different idea's considering great architecture and did not want to be content with the mind-numbing marginal small work on insignificant small houses. He had reservations about the "pragmatic business way" on which Van Tijen and Maaskant ran their office.
