Central Square Plovdiv

The city of Plovdiv, Bulgaria, wants to upgrade the city center into a contemporary meeting place.

Kokon designed a two-level square: the lower level as a modern city garden, interwoven with remains of ancient Roman buildings. The gardens are the flowering, fragrant heart of the city.

The higher level is designed as a city square and street, open and paved with the beautiful local natural stone. Here markets, social events and sportive activities can take place. Both levels are conneccted by a path that follows the contours of the ancient Roman agora, along archaeological diggings and a through new museum at the lower level.
