Our Village

We were commissioned by Gebroeders Blokland to design 72 homes. The village ambience of Hardinxveld-Giessendam has become the starting point for the whole design.

The various architectural styles that have been used fit in seamlessly. The typical small dyke houses with the gabled facades, decorated with modest brickwork, constitute the basis for the design of many of the semi-detached and detached houses. Here and there this was also applied to a row of terraced houses.

Furthermore, references to barns, located along the 'Buitendams' dyke road are included. Both on the side of the river and the 'polder'. The result is sober, efficient architecture with onobtrusive materials.

Thatched roofs have been added as a bonus, nowadays rarely seen in Hardinxveld-Giessendam. These used to be abundant, but many authentic thatched roofs have since been replaced by other roofing materials.

The architecture as a whole comprises an interesting mix that matches the local traditional architecture. With this, Kokon hase made a smart move towards the realisation of a recognisable newly built neighbourhood that has been given the pleasant title of 'Ons Dorp' (our village).
